Located on an island in Lake Erie, this project originated when the client, working with a local lumberyard, sought to replace an aging barn on their island property. The lumberyard contacted Riverbend to inquire about the feasibility of providing the timber frame package. Upon an initial consultation, Riverbend’s expertise in high-end timber framing and barn construction became evident, leading the client to entrust the entire project to the Riverbend team.
The client and their architect were searching for a timber frame company to collaborate with on their project: a barn style addition for their existing home. Their design concept was at the schematic level, and they needed a timber frame company to help them take it to the next level. Recognizing Riverbend’s expertise in the timer frame industry, the architect engaged Riverbend to further develop the structural scope and determine the costs for the project.
When Michigan-based business owners started picturing their dream home, they had a good idea of what they envisioned – they just needed to put together their team to bring their vision to life. The couple had previously built a picturesque barn on their property, and wanted their home to complement the beauty of the barn, while providing a modern, luxurious living space. Their builder had drafted 2D plans for the home, and the clients were searching for the best company to provide a comprehensive design solution.
The clients first met Riverbend Timber Framing at a Log and Timber Home Show in Columbus, Ohio. They had already been working with an architect and needed to find a timber frame company to fabricate the timber structure for their home. After completing a final schematic design, they needed to work out the scope and cost of their project. Riverbend was asked by the client and their architect to provide a cost estimate for the timbers and structural shell. Because the design was only at the schematic level, the structure needed to be clearly defined and resolved in order to get an accurate cost, which is what Riverbend’s Design Consultation service is intended to do.
When the homeowners contacted Riverbend Timber Framing, they had already hired one of the country’s premier architecture firms, well known for their expertise in designing some of the most prestigious wineries in Napa Valley. The schematic design had been completed but the structural details were not yet contemplated. The homeowners engaged Riverbend to create a structural design from the architect’s schematic drawings, utilizing heavy timbers and structural insulated panels (SIPs) to form the structural shell of the home.
Riverbend provided the timber framing for the clubhouse at the world-famous Whistling Straits golf club in Wisconsin. The craftsmanship of the frame is a great complement for one of the World’s oldest games. View photos of more commercial timber framing projects.
These structural trusses were designed to match the timber framing that already existed within a Wyoming resort. Steel plates were engineered inside the trusses to ensure strength, but remain hidden to emphasize the beauty of the natural wood. View video.
