Dewees Island, South Carolina Residence
The coastal environment of South Carolina inspired the design of this timber frame home. The main level was left open so water brought in by storms can pass through the home’s site without damaging the structure. Cypress, which weathers well, was selected for the home’s exterior and has been left unfinished to naturally gray and blend in with the island’s vegetation.

Stairs lead to the home’s entry on the second floor where the interior spaces utilize the rich and organic timber trusses, wood ceiling panels, and wood floors. Multiple decks extend living outdoors. Overall, this home has a distinct attitude of simple and relaxed island living.
