A Weekend Retreat in Alberta

As the President of a technologies company in the bustling city of Calgary, Bryan had been dreaming of building a second home where he could easily escape the city and relax on long weekends and holidays. After purchasing land in the smaller, scenic town of Olds, an hour outside of Calgary, Bryan began his search to find his ideal home design for his weekend retreat.

Bryan had always shown an interest in the traditional style of timber frame homes. Coming across Riverbend Timber Framing, he was immediately impressed by their unique building system and one-of-a-kind designs. Attracted to the dynamic, western-style of the Sonoma Hills, Bryan contacted Riverbend’s Sales Manager, Brent Cooper, to get started on his project’s design.

“When Bryan came to us, he already had his mind set on the Sonoma Hills plan,” Brent said. “With the concept’s extra square footage above the garage and emphasis on outdoor living, Bryan knew he had found the design that spoke to his lifestyle.”

Working with his project’s designer, Bryan decided to add a basement to his version of the Sonoma Hills so he could incorporate extra bedrooms, a lower level garage, and specialty spaces like a studio and craft room. In addition, he also had the living space above the main level garage turned into an apartment, complete with a kitchen and dining room for guests.

With the design process nearing completion, Bryan is excited to begin the next phase in his project. The manufacturing of his home’s timber frame and the initial start of construction are scheduled to begin in the spring of 2014.
