An Alberta Timber Home Update

What started as a great timber frame raising event during the snowy seasons of Alberta is now nearing completion. Today’s article features exclusive photos of a Riverbend client’s personal oasis in Canada.

View of Canadian Rockies

This custom timber frame home was built just outside of Calgary on a large plot of land overlooking Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. Having a footprint over 10,000 livable square feet, this home has plenty of opportunities for breathtaking views, as well as outdoor spaces— like a glass accordion wall that leads to a sun deck off of the great room, allowing interaction with the surrounding Canadian landscape.

Timber Frame Exterior

Within this two-level home, the couple included specialty rooms like a wine cellar, fitness room, golf simulator, and theater room, as well as a handful of guest suites, and three laundry rooms—one conveniently located in the master suite, one for guests and one for linens. With plenty of space, this couple has a timber framed home that can easily cater to groups of friends and family, both large and small.

Timber Framing

The interior of this timber frame home is comprised of traditional timber framing, Insulspan brand structural insulated panels (SIPs), and Advantage brand insulated concrete forms (ICFs). Being built in a colder region, utilizing energy efficient SIP walls and an ICF foundation ensures that the home is capable of weathering the harsh Canadian winters.
