Timber Framing

Wooden pegs instead of nails are used to secure the timber frame structure

We build timber frame buildings, which are simply post and beam structures, defined by a magnificent system of wooden framing members exposed to the interior. The timbers are connected by pegged mortise and tenon joinery, much like that found in fine furniture.

On the outside, a timber frame home can be as conventional as its neighbors, but open the door and it immediately becomes apparent that this is no ordinary house. The range of styles -- from rustic to traditional to contemporary -- is as wide as the imagination.

Riverbend's designers and craftsmen proudly carry forward a tradition that began thousands of years ago. By combining the proven techniques of the past with creative design and some of the most advanced engineering in the industry, we are continually expanding the range of timber frame styles and functions.

The mortise and tenon joinery is what defines true timber framing

We believe that the traditional wooden joinery is the best way to construct a durable and inherently beautiful framework. This type of joinery has been used for well over a thousand years, and there are hundreds of ancient timber frame structures that stand in testimony to its strength. Other methods may be faster and require less skill, but these advantages are to the manufacturer, not the structure.

There is terminology used in the timber frame industry that helps depict the different elements used in the design and construction of a home. Learning some of these descriptions may help assist you in more clearly defining your dream home.
Riverbend provides various forms of timber truss designs. These designs accentuate different spaces and scales within a home. You can also use these beautiful truss designs to showcase timber framing on the exterior of your home.
