 My Profile:
After studies in Architecture, Art, and finally Sociology (Boston University), Stewart Elliott returned to his family roots, following his father’s architectural profession and his mother’s art career. After all those construction ‘summer jobs,’ it was restoration of 18th century buildings in ME and NH. This logically evolved to his construction company providing new construction using this centuries old Timber Frame building system.

Because of the lack of educational information on the subject in the 1970s, Stewart became a leader in hands-on site workshops throughout the county. For over 10 years he taught the crafts and skills of timber framing through the design, building and raising of a frame for a home, usually in a week’s time. It only followed that Stewart would include authoring three books on the subject: The Timber Framing Book, The Timber Frame Plan Book, and The Timber Frame Raising Book.

In 1978 Stewart’s career continued its evolution into management with North America’s largest single-source Timber Frame and Structural Insulating Panel (SIP) supplier. He has continued to write articles (Fine Homebuilding, Mother Earth News, Whole Earth, and Solar Age), make presentations (conferences [Traditional Building, Eco Build, and the Log and Timber shows] and professional meetings), and teach (workshops, University and Community college level) on this subject. He is also certified to offer CEU presentations to professional organizations.

Stewart believes that the Timber Frame industry has the opportunity to lead the conversation supporting the sensibility, sustainability and energy conservation of building systems.
